25 Vanagons for sale on Craigslist at one time? I haven't seen 25 total for sale on the N. Virginia Craigslist in the last 5 years! And the last 2 I have bought I found on Craigslist. Jeff

To me, buying anything over a few hundred bucks is a few hour experience. I
just bought a flat panel big screen TV. It took my father and I all day
comparing, wheeling and dealing, etc. until I found the right price on the right
TV. On my local Craigs List, there are 25 Vanagons for sale. If I show up to
buy one with my coveralls, flashlight, a few hand tools and get a bad vibe,
fine, I will move on. I am not about to invest thousands of dollars into a 30
year old toy only to bring it home and find all of its issues.
When I do a checklist, it is more of a list of how much it will cost to get it
in the shape I want it to be in. I will weigh the list of the three or four
that I like and see which one is the better deal. Sometimes the cheaper van
with the most issues is a better deal than the expensive van with very minimal
issues.
I buy and sell a lot of VWs. I save them from the crusher, clean them up, put
some work into them and find them a new loving home. I tend to shy away from
selling to people who don't inspect the engine and get under it and give it a
good once over. They are the ones who are going to call in a few moths saying
that he lemon I sold them died and thy want their money back. I tend to go
through the sale with a curios buyer and show them everything from front to back
that I have seen. I often run into these folks still driving the VW I sold
them. They always want to show me their rig with pride and show the
improvements made. I see the other people also, they glare at me as if I robbed
them..
To each his own, but I will continue to be objective.

Ok, so I won't buy a van from you, if I ever need another one. what is it with
folks who are not capable of allowing other folks to exercise their means of
ascertaining whether something is right for them or not? Just because someone
uses a checklist doesn't mean (s)he is not worth dealing with. It just means
that (s)he is systematic in answering questions for himself.
All you guys who are so impatient with others .............. you make me
impatient.
