Bill, you notice I said "empty the bag." The waste goes into a pit toilet, a composting toilet, a dump station receptacle, whatever. If I am truly in the boonies, I bury it. The bag is, because of the sphagnum, not contaminated. It goes into the trash, when I get where trash disposal is available. Until recently, my preferred approach was, when truly in the boonies, to dig a pit and squat, then cover the pit. But, with age, the knees and hips object.

BTW, you are absolutely correct regarding solid waste disposal such as land fills. Not made to accept human waste, but guess what? Unfortunately, the diaper industry has resulted in huge quantities of human waste going into them. The newer products, the "flushables" notwithstanding, most people just toss 'em. A real environmental nightmare, especially in places where neither the citizenry nor the authorities have bothered with public waste disposal, like in Eastern Kentucky where I used to live. Along some creeks, the trees looked like diaper trees. I'm not kidding.

BTW, washable diapers are making a comeback among folks who are environmentally concerned.

Bill, I appreciate your concern. I have probably put more thought and effort into environmental matters than the large majority of folks. Thanks again,

mcneely
