The rare, pricey 2.0 heads that are for 914's only have relocated sparkplugs (pointing straighter up) and different top tins accordingly. Regular 2.0 Type 4 heads come in oval or square-exhaust port versions with the plugs in the usual locations. Those aren't as hard-to-find or as expensive as the 914 2.0's. I have rebuilt many of those, and still have many Type 4 parts here. The USA Vanagon always used the square-port heads from 80-83. If you had to hire a shop to rebuild your engine, the labor cost exceeds the value of the complete running vehicle.;-( Whilst Vanagons in general are worth less than the value of their dismembered parts, it had been my experience that the air-cooled T3's arrived at that point much sooner than their water-cooled counterparts.
