You will need to carefully measure the liners to see if they are in fact the
same diameter. The sets are matched and I have found there to be significant
variation even in the same brand-engine size.
The pistons are the real wear item here. They wear both on the outside and
the ring lands. Except for damage such as scoring or damage from leaking at
the head junction I have yet to see the liners suffer from normal wear.
(except for the air cooled engines). Sell the 1.9 set and use the money
towards a 2.1 set if you need it.

While we are on this subject can I ask a related question? Sorry, Scott, I
hope you don't mind I ask this question on this topic.
I bought a new Brazilian 1.9L cylinder/piston liner set several years ago. I
picked it up cheap when someone wanted to unload it on Craigslist. The
problem is my 85 has a 2.1 engine on it. So here is my question.
Can I use the new cylinders and the new rings out of this new 1.9L liner set
and install them on my 2.1 engine? This means I am reusing the 2.1 pistons.
My understanding of the difference between 1.9 and 2.1 liners is only in the
pistons. The cylinder bores and possibly the rings are identical.
I believe it is about time to reseal my 2.1 cylinder heads. I may take this
opportunity to renew the cylinders and all the rings. Is this a good idea or
not?
This is similar to what that company does (but with a new set of cylinders)
for the advertised engine. I assume that my pistons are still good. I
don't want a full rebuild at this time. Thanks for any suggestions.
