One CAN mount the map pocket on the passenger door, but NOT in the factory provided cutouts in the door panel. Open the glove box and then Just move the map pocket back and up a bit out of the way then drill the holes & mount. I was able to fit 2 map pocket on each of the front doors. very nice.

Just for completeness sake, many/some European models have a shelf and not a opening glove box.

"Many people add one to the passenger front door. "

For those contemplating this, beware that you won't be able to open the glove box without first opening the passenger door. Bus Depot has some plastic frames with heavy duty stretch netting that make a more open pocket. They are intended for use in campers, at least that's where I use mine. But they would like perfectly flat on a door panel while still being of use to the passenger when needed.
