A some-what work-around, to eliminate the need to mess with that pin and the pedal?...Use some Wurth SA Besto on the whole apparatus. SA Besto 2000, or some such...it is a very penetrating compound as it comes out of the aerosol can. Then the carrier medium evaporates leaving a high pressure grease. I've had great success lubing many very hard to reach or tight spaces with that, either spraying from the little straw that comes with the can or I also have some vacuum line that I can use for really 'silly' places that the straw/can won't squirt into.

It is pricey stuff, mostly found online. Well worth it. I also use that on my shift linkage with great results.
