The guy that had my 90 Carat Vanagon before me was a map pocket enthusiast. I have never seen a Vanagon with so many map pockets installed in so many creative ways. Of course I have one on the passenger door and it is shifted back a few inches from how it is installed on the driver's door and therefore doesn't interfere with anything. I can open the glove box with the door closed no problem. Then he cut the top level of plastic off of another one and attached it to the plastic cover that is below the dash board, behind the shifter area (where the two floor vents come out). This is a nice area for storing things and he attached a flip open cup holder to this on the driver's side and it is my favorite cup holder placement I have ever seen in a Vanagon (I have seen hundreds of permutations of this believe me). Then he cut a map pocket in half vertically and put one half on either side of the bottom of the plastic shifter housing (automatic). Again this makes for two very convenient pockets one on each side of the shifter.

My wife loves this configuration so much that when I bought a nicer 89 Wolfsburg in a color that I thought she would like better (light blue) she said she wanted to keep our 90 Carat (Dark blue) instead.

So go map pocket crazy! I am excited that they are being made again!
