four barrels and four pistons all separated and not marked ? not good. I don't ever like to put pistons back in a barrel with the same used rings on them on air-cooleds anyway. I usually hone the barrels and put in new rings. I'd check piston clearance between the bare piston and barrel. I don't find the pistons and barrels ever to be the weak part really ...it's the heads usually.

if piston clearance in the barrels checks out AND piston ring grooves spec out decently .. and ring end gapS of the new rings in the barrels are ok... it'll probably be all right with honed barrels and new rings on good pistons.

a set of new pistons and barrels isn't that expensive anyway is it ? I've seen 1.9 wbxr Brizillian sets for around $ 200.

one of my sayings .. applies more to whole vans than to engines ..but still applies to engines too :

"Dissasebled is worse than just abused and neglected." Especially dissasembled carelessly or in a hurry.
