I believe that Audi uses the CIS fuel injection which runs at much higher
pressures than a Vanagon. The plumbing needs to be something that does not
expand under pressure. Using proper fittings and the proper metric steel
line sections can be spliced in. If the proper line is still available that
would be the best choice.

Subject: Fuel line replacement

I have a '91 Audi 80 Quattro that has been very enjoyable to own and drive.
This week it developed a small leak in the fuelline from the tank to the
engine compartment. The line is steel and has rusted enough to begin
leaking. I got a price for a replacement steel line from a dealer, $260.00
plus installation. I was told that since this was the high pressure side
they are not allowed to replace the line with a rubber line. I notice
however that Vanagons us rubber fuel lines . Does anyone have an opinion
regarding replacing my steel fuel line with the much cheaper, and easier to
fabricate rubber line ?
