disc brakes - good answer.

My link was to do with Tony Rolt. After his racing career he went on
to work for Ferguson, and during that time was involved with the
development of a 4wd system that did involve a viscous coupling
version as well as a mechanical  4wd system.

He also was involved with the escape from Colditz plan that involved
building a glider!
