I too have wondered about sleeping in my kitchen. Especially with the top
up. Certainly made me more aware of what I might cook in a given
surrounding. That said....

Last Fall, I had occasion to scoot across the border into California to
Jedidiah CG in the Redwoods.

Every camp spot I saw had a "bear proof" food storage locker. And IIRC,
there was signage stating that one had to store all food in these
containers.

The higher fee not withstanding, for that reason alone I turned tail to the
nearest OR campground.

IMO, it seemed to me that the bears were a problem that was deeply
ingrained.
