Of course, one thing about bear spray is that one must learn to use it properly. Employed improperly, it may incapacitate the user rather than repel the bear. In fact, there was a story posted at a visitor center in Glacier last summer about a hiker who accidentally discharged his bear spray and ended up with serious injury to his eyes over the incident. So, if you get it, practice, and then consider conditions before discharging it for real. But, don't practice in localities where bears might be present.
