My '82 Audi 5000 turbo had to be scrapped due to the auto trans crapping out. My '87 Westy auto trans is doing great! Mike B. -----Original Message----- From: Old Volks Home Sent: Friday, February 18, 2011 7:43 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Auto trans interchangablibilty When presented with buying my 84 Westy in 1997, I found that it was an automatic. With trepidation I asked my VW mechanic friend (20+years experience) about the viability and durability of the Vanagon auto. His reply was "They're great in a Vanagon, but absolute s**t in the Audi 5000" His reasoning is that the 5000 put too much torque for the tranny to handle it. That's when I found out the "intertwining" of VW and Audi parts. -- Jim Thompson 84 GL 1.9 "Gloria" 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" 75 914 1.8 "Nancy" Full Timing Since March 1999 oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com *********************************** On Thu, Feb 17, 2011 at 11:08 AM, Chris S <szpejankowski@gmail.com> wrote: > Seriously.
