Thanks everyone! I'm not convinced I need to replace it especially for the cost quoted...I've done it before myself.
That's a good story too. I was driving up through Eureka and Arcata when I lost power (actually near Mendocino). I heard about a shop and went in. The owner hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to the engine and then climbed in the back and told me to drive around the block and then up a huge hill. As we were going along he was calling out numbers while straddling the engine. He yelled - yup, no fuel pressure, need to replace the pump.
I ordered the part from a parts shop and found a campground. It happened to be located next to a reggae festival. I wandered around the reggae festival being one of the oldest and "alertest" there....replaced the pump the next day and voila, power.
I might buy the pump for the $109.00 and keep it on hand, replace the fuel filter...and ponder how to put a fuel filter in front.
Meanwhile they are replacing the upper passenger side ball joint which really needs it... Thanks, Andree

If you don't have a filter front of it, I would recommend to put one there. Much cheaper to change that then the pump. And it can be blown clean backward too.
