As I spoke of a couple days ago regarding wide 16" tires and rock chips, I would vote for non-metallic paint.  Otherwise impossible to treat rock chips & scratches and such on a well-utilized Vanagon (they are gonna happen) with satisfaction using touch-up paint; if a solid color, very easy.
