That was it, or so it seems for now. I took some 1500 grit sandpaper and cleaned the contacts, then put some dialectric grease on them to try to hold off whatever caused the corrosion previously. Seems to work fine now. One thing I am suspicious of is the moving contact on the lever. It did not want to pry out of its mount, so I didn't push it. The bentley offers no information. I presume it snaps in and out but since things were working and I did not know if I could get a replacement locally, I left it alone. This is not the main nylon block with multiple contacts, but the square plastic item that pops into a square hold in the shift lever with a bridging contact on it. It seemed kind of loose to me, and it may be that some part behind it (inside the metal of the lever) is making erratic contact. Does anyone know anything about that little part?
