True, but (you knew there was gonna be a but) the screwdriver is self limiting by the very absence of mechanical advantage. In othere words, you would have to be a monster to overtighten a clamp with a screwdriver.

I used a 1/4" drive ratchet to tighten a power steering hose (not really tight, but) and broke the nipple off the reservoir. Remember that old plastic may be a bit brittle. At least, support the nipple when you are attempting to tighten the hose clamps.
