In any case.. anything you can do to get the spark plugs to burn more of the fuel/air mixture in the combustion chambers helps ..not in power so much, but in emissions and fuel economy, strong cold starting etc.

And the stock single electrode sparkplugs .. they are not even extended tip spark plugs ..they are 'low grade ordinary' spark plugs. .. so as long as the Ign system can fire them ..\ enhanced spark plugs could help.

a good example is .. I have converted numerous cars from points ignition to electronic ignition .. no other changes, same spark plugs, same combustion chamber shape.. in every case it has 'woken up' the car or van nicely.

'normal good' platinum spark plugs ..like those used in Subaru engines cost that much , 12 to 15 bucks each, so that's fairly common price wise.

I'd give 'em a try. And a nice experiment - I am very big on shooting the temps of each exhaust header pipe with an IR Temp gun .. this tells you a lot ...or can .. if one pipe is say 100 degrees F below the others ..that means something. I measure them about 6 inches from the exhaust port where the pipes are hottest.

I'd check compression first to make sure they're even, or fairly even. then I'd put the fancy plugs in just one side, then when warmed up and at say 1,500 rpm ...take the temp readings .. it would be nice if there's a difference...one that indicates the new ones are firing stronger etc.

injector spray patters should all be good too of course. Very important to check those once in a while on waterboxer engines.

Let us know what you discover.
