My '82 Audi 5000 turbo had to be scrapped due to the auto trans crapping out. My '87 Westy auto trans is doing great!

When presented with buying my 84 Westy in 1997, I found that it was an automatic. With trepidation I asked my VW mechanic friend (20+years experience) about the viability and durability of the Vanagon auto. His reply was "They're great in a Vanagon, but absolute s**t in the Audi 5000" His reasoning is that the 5000 put too much torque for the tranny to handle it. That's when I found out the "intertwining" of VW and Audi parts. -- Jim Thompson 84 GL 1.9 "Gloria" 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" 75 914 1.8 "Nancy" Full Timing Since March 1999 oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com *********************************** On Thu, Feb 17, 2011 at 11:08 AM, Chris S <szpejankowski@gmail.com> wrote: > Seriously.
