Seriously? Where do you get a quality cassette adapter? I never could find one over 10 or 15 bucks, and none of them lasted more than a few months, and sound quality was iffy. You're right, the FM transmitter units stink. However, for a mere $69.00 I got a really nice Pioneer unit from Best Buy, installed one in my Westy and one in my daughters '98 New Beetle (for the NB I first looked for a VW CD unit someone had pulled to upgrade, but the NB folks must be smokin' crack, they all wanted around $300.00 for used stock CD units) For &69.00, am/fm, CD, but most importantly, an aux jack for plugging in an iPod, mp3 player, etc. I can even plug in my VW electric guitar and play through the unit (If I could play, that is) I don't even bother with CDs anymore, its just easier to plug in the mp3 player. Just FYI, the cassette plug in dies not scratch the heads. The head
sensor does not move, but stays stationary. A quality cassette adapter
outperforms an FM transmitter any day (check the FM limits vs.
Cassette specs). I have tested lots of them. I also have used a
cassette adapter in my Beetle TDI for many years with no issues.
