No, the steel wheels were all the same 211 601 027 H. The Vanagon used 251 601 151 A all round originally, but you can use the 311 601 151 D on the rears only. Thus, the reason for confusion :) Who knows what the previous owner(s) did with my 84 GL before I came along :) -- Jim Thompson 84 GL 1.9 "Gloria" 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" 75 914 1.8 "Nancy" Full Timing Since March 1999 oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com *********************************** On Mon, Feb 28, 2011 at 10:04 AM, <mcneely4@cox.net> wrote: > ---- Old Volks Home <oldvolkshome@GMAIL.COM> wrote: > >> How the woman who sold Joe the earlier style of hubcap got on them the >> front, I'll never know. Does that mean that tire rotation required removing the tires from the wheels and remounting them? Did one have to carry two spares in order to have a wheel to mount front if needed, and one to mount rear if needed? All seems needlessly complicated and a real functional problem. > > mcneely >
