That kind of solder fatigue plagues the cruise control amplifiers in '80's/'90's era Mercedes and Audi vehicles. I have two '94 Audi wagons with inop cruise systems, which I assume is due to failed amps, yet they have a system that appears to be quite similar to that used in my Vanagon. My van's system works quite cheerfully, despite being older and far more prone to vibration and violent upheaval. I don't think I've ever heard of an amp failure in a Vanagon; why is that?
