Yep they "look" alike, but there is one BIG difference......

The Jetta Digifant II ISV uses a 034 133 455, which has a 3 terminal connection on the end. It does NOT interchange with a Vanagon. It does fit a wide variety of vehicles though besides the VW Jetta, such as the 85-89 Golf II, 85-87 Audi 4000, 85-86 Audi 5000, various 1995-2005 Hyundai models (Accent, Elantra, Tiburon), 95-96 KIA Sportage, 90-93 Saab 9000 and several more makes. Bosch 0280 140 505 (Siemens/VDO does not make).

The Vanagon ISV uses a 025 906 457 A, has a 2 terminal connection on the end. Siemens/VDO 408202008003Z (Bosch does not make).

I find that a lot of online places lump their ISV's together without really knowing the differences, many of them just assume they are the same. I thought that too about 14 years ago, but found out the hard way ($$$) they weren't. VW probably intentionally did it that way to prevent installing the wrong one on a vehicle, probably because of calibration issues.

I'm pretty sure the Control Boxes are just as different.

In your case Don, you were lucky to get one that had the proper connection end from whomever that online dealer was. -- Jim Thompson 84 GL 1.9 "Gloria" 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" 75 914 1.8 "Nancy" Full Timing Since March 1999 oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com *********************************** On Thu, Feb 24, 2011 at 3:40 PM, Don Hanson <dhanson928@gmail.com> wrote: > Jetta 1.8 liter (Digifant II)...same part number as a WBX...at some online > place for ~$85...works fine.  Do a 'shopping search' on Google...I forget > where mine came from...Parts Train or somewhere kinda silly, but the price > was certainly right and it is now two years old going strong on my new ABA > motor.. > >  Don Hanson
