It broke bust behind the junction in the middle of the van. Unfortunately it's inside the cable housing, so it would be almost impossible to splice.

It appears a new one is $25. I'd gladly pay $50 for one right now!

If it weren't so cold I'd use nuts, bolts, and lock washers, but I have to do that from underneath, so I'll see how long the sheet metal screws last. > > My cable broke near the throttle last fall, and I fixed it with a ring terminal and some 14 ga. wire. I slipped the ring terminal over the solid piece near the end of the cable, and put the attached wire under the screw where the original cable end attaches. It lasted about six months and the wire frayed. I'll do the same thing until I either replace the cable, or scrap the Vanagon. Right now the alternator needs to be replaced, and I'm not sure I want to put any more work into it. > > Ed > > -------------------------------------------------- > From: "Aaron" <a.robinson.lists@GMAIL.COM> > Sent: Sunday, February 27, 2011 8:53 PM > To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> > Subject: Just when you think... > >> Wow! Let see, with some fishing line and chewing gum... Fortunately I'm only 60 miles from home and I have AAA
