I'll second this from Alan. I use Electric Contact Cleaner myself, but be sure to immediately re-lube with with graphite spray, a locksmith's best friend. I've learned this over the past 20+ years re-keying and/or code cutting VW locks. Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment to code/re-key Vanagon locks, only just the earlier models. -- Jim Thompson 84 GL 1.9 "Gloria" 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" 75 914 1.8 "Nancy" Full Timing Since March 1999 oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com *********************************** On Sun, Feb 27, 2011 at 8:06 PM, Alan Felder <dieseldoofus@gmail.com> wrote: > Edward - with your carb cleaner you may have removed all the lube.  I'm no > lock expert but have fixed the keying on one or two of the side doors.  I > would not take that cylinder with tumblers out, without trying to just > re-lube the thing first. > > > -- > Alan Felder > Austin TX > 82 Diesel Westy
