I'll second this from Alan.  I use Electric Contact Cleaner myself,
but be sure to immediately re-lube with with graphite spray, a
locksmith's best friend.  I've learned this over the past 20+ years
re-keying and/or code cutting VW locks.  Unfortunately, I don't have
the equipment to code/re-key Vanagon locks, only just the earlier
models.
