The Smokies are pretty good mountains. They meet the geological definition (consist of a geosyncline), and they are the tallest and most rugged in the East. Lots of ranges worldwide have less local relief than the Smokies and are called mountains. Doesn't have to be Denali to be a mountain. mcneely
