My father owned one of these WW II era powerwagen Army ambulance in Alaska. It was our only transportation for a few years.I think it was a 1945. The heater did'nt work, and the passenger door did'nt latch. One night , a friend of my dad's asked for a ride home, he was too drunk remember the warning I gave about not leaning on the door. He did lean anyway in a curve, fell out , and I jumped out of the truck while it was still in low gear and running , to see what happened to the guy. He was laying in the road, and looked dead. I shook him, he opened his eyes, got up and got back in the truck, which had rolled into a front porch and knocked it sideways. Mind you I was only going about 15 on ice packed roads, and the man was bundled up in layers of clothing which over that he wore a thick down parka. I was 15. I loved driving that truck, push-putton start, whining trasmission , pneumatic windshield wipers, and the high roof. Robert 1982 Westfalia

A couple of scans from old slides, one of the Powerwagon, and one of Johanson Lake, Northern B.C. http://shufti.wordpress.com/2011/03/04/johanson-lake/ That truck was great.
