Shouldn't be a problem. A previous owner of my 84 Westy retrofitted an 88 Hatch on mine as a result of a rear-ender he/she had long before I got it in 1996.

The Button Lock Assy is different from the 82, but you should be able to swap the Lock Cylinder so you can use the same key. -- Jim Thompson 84 GL 1.9 "Gloria" 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" 75 914 1.8 "Nancy" Full Timing Since March 1999 oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com *********************************** On Thu, Mar 3, 2011 at 1:36 PM, Bret Berger <bretberger@gmail.com> wrote: > My 82 rear hatch is creased, dented and rusted to the point that I am > considering replacing it with a straight one from a donor.  It would be > nice to substitute a hatch from a later model which has a rear wiper. > Has anyone done this? > > -bret in Saint George, Utah > 1982 diesel Westfalia
