Yeah.  There's a little notchy thing that the plastic pull tab was attached
to.  Just pull it toward the front of the van an 1/8th inch or so and the
tire carrier will drop to the ground with a mighty clang.  Speaking as the
voice of experience, DO NOT LET IT HIT YOUR FINGER ON THE WAY DOWN.  It
broke mine.

|pathetic piece of inadequate German engineering snapped in two. What a
|sorry excuse for a mechanism this is!. Now I am in need of even more urgent
|help as to how to release the spare tire. I now dare not even risk driving
|the van to a tire shop. I'm hoping there is some arcane trick to operating
|the release. H-E-L-P!
