The smell probably seems to "go away" because of your physiology. One accommodates to odors after a time. You might have someone available who simply is more sensitive than you. No guarantee, of course. I don't know if shops have electronic sniffers, but such do exist. My guess would be filler neck or gas cap, both of which can pass vapors if bad, without leaking liquid fuel. At least I have had both those problems, the filler neck with the van, and a bad gas cap with a different vehicle. Both times, no liquid fuel spilled, but I could smell fuel. Replacement cleared up the problem. mcneely
