If you don't know what you're doing tightening that screw too much is an easy way to burn the tranny up and if you get the band to slip off the piston on one side or the screw you get to remove the valve body to try to get it back together. The piston has more than enough stroke to compensate for wear after the initial adjustment during assembly. If second gear is slipping you will need to open it up and fix everything that is wrong.
