I stopped reading these tire threads the 1st time I had a mail order tire sales man tell me that I had just been lucky driving on just tires the last 30+ years and someday my "family" could die a "fiery death" because of my tire choice. At the time we were talking about my Vanagon which did weigh less than a Honda Accord (I weighted the Vanagon). I only dropped into this to see what Jake had to say... I suggest the next time you are out on a trip, outfitted as you usually are when traveling you stop at a roadside weigh station that is closed. The scales are usually still working. Get your front ties on and write down the number, get the whole van on and right down the number, then just the rear tires and write that number down. That is what YOUR Vanagon weighs. Now you know what it is your are trying to support, do the math and get the best tires you can afford.
