Hi Troy There are a few points to make if making your own. Thickness of material and what your machine can handle. You may damage a small Home style machine and cost more to fix or replace then just buying a new complete canvas. Use the correct Thread and Marine Zippers, Screen. Also the Hemp/Canvas should be for the application at hand or what it is designed to do. What weight is it. Is it Numbered Duck and what is its thread count. Or all your hard work will be a waist of time. For the Hours you will put into it you will be doing this for Fun purpose only, it would be cheaper to just purchase one in the long run. BUT, I do know of people that will do it and have done it and enjoy the challenge of doing it. Guys like my self and a few other sickos out there ( you know who you are) Make a living doing this. I personally have weighed the feasibility of me making or just buying my canvas that I know only has 1-2 seasons left in it. I can make more doing something else then making it up for what the cost is to just purchase. My biggest concern is the quality of Other persons work vs what I am accustomed to at my shop. I have been checking out the 4-5 manufactures in the past few years and some are crap but a few are nice enough to just purchase. Installation is still the key. Great canvas can still be crap if installed wrong, But I have seen bad canvas installed well. Good luck with what ever you determine is the best for you.
