It might be an over reaction, but until you can accurately predicate
direction and strength of tsunamis its better to over react. People on
the west coast of Van. Island heard the sirens at 1 am, and did move
to higher ground. The reservation at Port Renfrew is only a few feet
above sea level. They all moved out.

It seems the 1700 earthquake in Japan did cause an impressive tsunami
on the PNW coast, some reports state that it made Cape Flattery
(Wash.) an island for a while.
