Tried the propane, and the engine did speed up when it was applied near the obviously-cracked intake manifold hose. Bought four replacement hoses. Cut off the cracked hose. Now I see that I probably have to remove the intake at the head to install the new one. Didn't know that, or I would have had a replacement gasket in hand before I started. Now I have no part and a van that won't run, blocking in the van that will run.

Do need to remove the intake in order to replace the intake manifold hose? Or is there some trick?

I might be able to put the old, cut hose back in place and glop it with sealant long enough to move the van while I await parts.

(And the crack doesn't appear to have gone all the way through the old hose, so the propane may have simply reached some other leak path.)
