The only fuel additive I ever use is Marvel's Mystery Oil. It helps in keeping the injectors clean. Just use once in a while. A little in the oil periodically helps keep the lifters in good operating order by adding a little more cleaning action.

With the spiking fuel prices, the very best thing you can do to fight the high fuel prices is to keep your vehicle well tuned and frequently serviced. Outside that - drive at the speed the vehicle was designed for - 55 mph on the open road. That will give you the maximum fuel economy. If we all went back to that speed as the official highway speed and enforced it - we would go a long way to reducing the demand for oil. Want to burn a lot of high priced gas in a Vanagon? Drive fast.
