Time lapse is very easy to do with a webcam. Plenty of software out on the interwebs to do it with.

Back in 2006 I shot a time lapse movie of my trip home from EveryBus using a webcam mounted on the dash of my van. With one frame captured every 4 seconds I wound up with a 60x speed increase.

If you have a spare laptop with a webcam available it'd be easy to do.
