Listen to the man. Would have been nice if VW had when they set up their heater controls.* Morse are probably the world leader in control cables that operate in both directions, and I'd be amazed if our A/T cables didn't. The Morse cable that operates the reversing gear on Scamp is ten feet long with a U-bend in it and has been operating in a salt water environment since 1963 with no problems. It's half an inch thick and exerts (at a guess) 40# or more at the operating end. Has a zerk fitting on each end.

*All right, that's not *totally* fair. When they were new the operating forces were low enough that they worked fine. But poor environmental sealing, possible bad choice of liner etc and lack of periodic lubrication have certainly taken their toll, and intrinsically it's a poor design.
