Hi Mark,

It'd have to freeze solid to hurt the plumbing, that'd take more than a day below freezing in my experience.

In years past I've left cardboard cartons containing garbage bags filled with water outside to make raw material for ice sculpture at Winter Bus Camp; after a full week outside at well below-freezing temps the ice was still only about two inches thick. Ponds might freeze abruptly but only because they are directly exposed to cool air. A water tank in a westy, not so much.

You could try topping the tank with boiling water before bedtime, if it helps you sleep better, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Happy Trails,
