12mm bolts on vanagons come in two differnt thread pitches. those with waterboxer vanagons won't see many 12mm thread diameter bolts on their vans.. but diesel vanagon owners will.. namely engine-to-bell housing ( the coarser thread ) and at the ends of the engine cradle bars on the 82 Diesel vanagon. The bell housing bolts use the coarser thread, the 4 used in the ends of the 82 DV cradle bars use the finner thread.......the same thread as the spare tire bolt. for lug bolts. 14 X 1.5 sounds right.
