I was given a '63 Bug as a wedding present. Later I bought ragtop
sunroof bug - can't remember exact year - Then I got a '68 Loaf and
later a '69 hard-sunroof Bug. I have serious Bug and Bus history through
the 1960's. Then in 1990 came an '85 Vanagon - my first, then in
succession came an '88 GL, then another '88 GL, then a '91 Carat. These
latter three I still have. I'm old enough that it would be foolish to
consider trying to buy anything new. I'd probably never get it paid for.
So I'll just drive what I have until either I - or they - just stop
running. I've told the kids to dig a big hole in the pasture, strap me
in the Red Brick with a fifth of Jack Daniels, and roll us both in the
hole. In ten thousand years or so, some archeologist will likely dig us
up and think he's really found something. Prol'ly so. Jack Daniels aged
10,000 years would be like rocket fuel.
