However - if the switch *is* working and the idle is high, the
deceleration fuel shutoff kicks in much earlier than it does on the
2.1l, not that much above 1000 rpm.  On an '84 with no tach I think
you could easily have an idle high enough to trigger it without it
sounding too unusual.  And if you're nibbling at the edge of the
decel mode, that will make the idle hunt for sure.
