Subject: Potential Big Sunroof Transplant
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hey Gang,

We've embark on a partial removal of the large steel sunroof on a 1984 Vanagon GL. Whilst moving it around today, water dumped into the interior which indicate clogged drains to us. We can deal with those sort of things.

The sunroof is very slightly tilted. We have never tried to adjust the opening and closing mechanisms on these things so any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated.

We had planned on cutting the roof out and thought the whole thing would just need to be incised right at the reinforcing rib forward of the opening. Today we discovered that the crank system extends beyond that point about another foot underneath. Before cutting the headliner to access the system, we wondered if anyone here had ever removed that portion or has viewed the arrangement without the headliner in place. Is that piece welded to the roof?

Thanks in advance,

BenT sent from my electronic leash
