Next time I go, I will likely find somewhere unimproved to camp. Furnace Creek, the old campground, it was chock-full. The one across the road from the main village of Furnace Creek was similar to a football stadium parking lot, but all giant motorhomes in that one. I did see the Texas Springs campground from the highway but it was full..

Going to visit a place like Death Valley and ending up parked next to a couple of hundred motor homes? Since we're talking Vanagons here, that makes little sense to me. Especially when we don't have to stick to smooth paved roads with 'semi-truck' topography. Backcountry camping is allowed, with some restrictions, anywhere more than 2 miles from a main highway in that park.

Wonder how many huge motor homes have gotten stuck, wedged, trapped, whatever..trying to negotiate that tight steep road to the Dante's View? I bet the Parkies get sick of that, and all the silly drivers telling them they should make the road 'better' so they won't get stuck...
