ROFL! Without wishing to appear callous, that might be a candidate for the squirt bottle. I've found if done discreetly it can get the idea across without personalities entering into the thing. Not quite sure how you'd be discreet though, unless you rigged up a nozzle ahead of time.

Also double-sticky tape can be a way of making a surface unattractive to a cat - again, maybe limited utility here.

Chicken wire? I'd love to see you explaining that to a mechanic...
