Scott - don't know about compatability of different foils, but I discovered a trick having to do with the T14 connector. If your copper strips have not delaminated, use a cleaner (or light abrasive) to remove the oxides from the copper. I cut a small sheet of business card stock and put it underneath the foil, making that part of the connection "fatter" so the push-on had better contact at the copper. Dielectric grease all over, of course.
