I seem to remember that among other things in the California law of banning cell phone use without hands free devices in an automobile it included use of CB radio.  In other words if you are seen by a cop holding with one hand and talking into a CB mic you can be cited. Is this really true? If it is then using a CB radio while traveling with a Vanagon in California becomes risky of getting a ticket. If they see your Vanagon Can anyone validate this? It would be in sane if it is true. This would be an example of an inappropriate application of a law that is for a good course otherwise. Can anybody validate this? Thanks.

CB 19 on a FS road is for the logging truck's manual collision avoidance system.

I have the Cobra 75 with pretty much the same setup as Loren.  Highly recommended.  Back it up with an FRS handheld if you don't have a ARRL license.

WX feature and "noise reduction' are nice on the 75.

I also use a handheld CB for those excursions into the world of "no service"  so I can tell the passenger side to start the brew up.

Pensionerd.
