Well, if you want to be that picky - the entire article is about campers and therefore when the article mentions a VW Van one can assume it is referring to VW Van's as a Camper.

Further more - even though it lumps the VW Van in with "older style american made" vans, there is far more than one sentence with VW Vans etc. as the topic.
