Actually it depends where you buy them.  Used is probably best.  Ordinary
plastic coated gas pipe can be cut to length and fits the Yakima 1A towers.
Installing a few sets of Yakima WideBody in well thought out locations will
provide options to mount various carriers, boxes, baskets fore and aft as
desired.

I have for sale some sets of 1A towers and some crossbars.  Locks perhaps
too.

To determine crossbar locations best for you measure the center to center
mounting points of the devices you plan to use add the tolerances allowed by
the particular device and select a crossbar location that allows you maximum
flexibility.

Best to mount things at the rear and buy one of Gary Lee's fine hatch
accessories.  You can access the side hinged boxes by climbing on the rear
tire or buying a Gary Lee Ladder.

Then the world is your oyster so to speak.
