well.. threaded fasteners do have to be tightened for them to work. like duh. I'd say it's more likely that someone would tighten an allen screw than it would be for them to peen/crimp the stock nut arrangement correctly.

that 'dent the nut' thing is purely about making teh vanagon less expensive to manufacture. It's a cheapness built in. the mercedes method is building it right. and that costs a bit more.

I did hear of a case of the allen nut not being tightened once.. but that was pure technician lameness.. akin to not tightening a drain plug, say.
